Kids Therapy

In therapy sessions with your child will have a safe and supportive space to engage in play activities specifically designed to address their unique needs and challenges. They may use toys, games, art materials, or other forms of play to express themselves and work through difficult experiences or emotions. The sessions are guided by a trained therapist who will observe, reflect, and interact with your child in a way that encourages their self-expression and understanding.

Therapy can benefit children in several ways. Firstly, it helps them develop and improve their emotional regulation skills, as they learn to express and manage their feelings in a healthy manner. It also promotes problem-solving abilities, decision-making skills, and helps enhance their social interactions and communication skills.

Play therapy is one specialized technique that some of our clinicians use with children.  Play therapy is a specialized approach that allows children to express themselves, explore their thoughts and emotions, and work through challenges in a way that is natural and comfortable for them. Play is a child's primary language, and through play therapy, we use various play techniques to engage with your child and facilitate their healing and growth.

Through play, children often gain insight into their own thoughts and emotions, develop resilience, and build self-esteem. They often learn new coping strategies, develop a sense of empowerment, and increase their overall emotional well-being.

As play therapists, they are trained to understand and interpret the underlying messages and themes within your child's play. This helps the clinician gain insight into their experiences, challenges, and strengths, which guides the therapeutic process. The therapist work collaboratively with both you and your child to set goals and support their growth and development.

It's important to note that play therapy is not solely for children with diagnosed mental health issues. It can benefit any child who may be facing difficulties such as anxiety, trauma, grief, social challenges, or behavioral issues.  At Roots, our clinicians working with kiddos will work with you and your child to address what’s concerning you, and prioritize the approach that works best for your family.

Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.
